What are they?:
Cluster flies are often mistaken for a house flies due to their similar appearance. Cluster flies tend to be tinged with yellowish coloured hairs on their thorax.
Signs that you have an issue:
Historically cluster flies would hibernate in old trees but now-a-days they prefer our warm sheltered homes. Out buzzing around windows in the day enticed by the light and withdrawing somewhere dark and quiet (usually a loft or cavity wall) during the night. They usually get active in the spring leaving to breed in the summer. They gather in large numbers in the autumn seeking out the last rays of sunshine before setting up camp in someones home for the winter.
How we would treat it:
Proprietary residual spraying. Sometimes a different approach may be needed should protected bats be in situ.
Frequency of treatment:
One treatment should usually cure a current infestation. Future prevention can involve sealing cracks and crevices.
